Against All Odds
An Okinawa Odyssey
Against All Odds is an autobiography that describes my journey in the martial arts. I was born in a remote village in the Province of Arkadia, Peloponnese, Greece. At an early life I wanted more than both of my parents could offer to me; therefore, at the age of 14 ½, I migrated to the United States where I came into contact with Okinawa’s Karate.
I became so immersed in the martial arts that I relocated to Okinawa and lived there for 15 years next to my teachers. In this book, I describe my triumphs and failures. I also give an account of how my teachers behaved, their ideas and beliefs about training, and how they lived in and out of the dojo.
As Okinawa Karate and Kobudo have moved into the new age of Karate and Kobudo Tourism, I felt it was important to document and to preserve my teachers’ thoughts and teachings as gatekeepers of the old Okinawa’s Karate, Kobudo and Budo.
